police assures us, that “racists” will be “driven out of the police” whilst revealing that 10 officers are currently under investigation of suspicion of the most “heinous” thought crime of our age.
Last week, writing in the London Evening Standard, former deputy editor of the Independent and sometime speech writer for Prime Minister David Cameron, Ian Birrell snarled that “racist” policemen should be “rooted out”, “prosecuted” and “lose their precious pensions”.
Indeed, Mr Birrell addressed his subject which such furious, staring-eyed zealotry, that one suspects only fear of exposure prevented him from adding that they be transported to some gulag in a remote part of Wales, or the Scottish highlands for forced re-education and recreational rock-breaking.
Meanwhile, a young man still languishes in prison for the offence ofsending an ideologically-incorrect tweet, whilst the one-time captain of the England soccer team, John Terry awaits prosecution for allegedly calling a black footballer “black”, and Terry has already been stripped of his captaincy, showing when it comes to “racism”, an accusation alone is deemed grounds for punishment, whether guilty or not.
Elsewhere, a young mother (Emma West) is out on bail after some informer turned her in via the internet when she expressed an objection to the forced invasion of her homeland.
We are regaled with shocking accounts of racially “insensitive” words, thoughts and deeds. Nightly, earnest young reporters appear on our televisions, and usually standing outside courts, police stations or football fields reporting on some politically incorrect quip as if it were equivalent to the napalm bombing of a hospice. (Which they probably think of its equivalency.)
Across the Atlantic Ocean in America, news channels such as CNN, or “we are Treyvon” as they have probably re-branded themselves by now, have taken to reporting an almost Lewis Carroll-style alternative reality where a man’s colour and ethnicity can be changed at the will of a metanarrative (For example Hispanics and Cherokee Indians can suddenly morph into “evil” White men just to suit an agenda).
Meanwhile alleged “victims” are transformed into angelic twelve year old versions of themselves. All this parallel universe chicanery is performed in an effort to “root out” the very same legendary (White) “racists” who are being hunted down by Commissioner Hogan-Howe and Ian Birrell here (in England).
At the same time hugely popular writers and commentators such Pat Buchananor John Derbyshire, who dare to speak truths which must not be spoken, are summarily dismissed, pilloried and have their livelihoods destroyed.
Of course, we have seen this all before in other times and in other places (U.S.S.R.) where ideological offenders and “thought criminals” were subjected to show trials and highly publicised prosecutions, and then called “enemies of the state“.
Now they are held up as evil, hate-fuelled “enemies of the multicultural fantasy” which has become the obsession of the state.
Now, as then, “thought criminals” must be purged from our institutions and positions of trust, then broken, punished and forced to confess and beg a forgiveness, which is seldom, if ever granted.
Now, as then, victims are judged to be offenders and punished for the crimes committed against them.
Now, just like then, fake realities are created to act both as parables of the new (state) religion, and as truncheons, with which the state can batter its terrorised population into acquiescence.
Just as then, we are required to pay lip service to an orthodoxy which we do not agree with, which frightens us, and which we know to be flawed, and only dare speak our true thoughts to our most trusted friends in hushed tones and in private.
As happened then, abject failures held together only by state terrorism are presented by an obedient and craven state media as glorious “successes”, which fool only those who wish to be fooled, but which few, if any, dare challenge.
What we are seeing, in effect is the Sovietisation of the West.
The Sovietisation of the United Kingdom was the subject with Dr Frank Ellis, then a lecturer at Leeds University, before the university attempted, but failed to purge him for expressing his disobedient views addressed in 2001 following the release of that most Stalinist and Orwellian of documents, The Macpherson report into the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
In his outstanding analysis of the report, Frank Ellis exposed the agenda driven fanaticism and false reality which influenced the Macpherson inquiry and its recommendations. and detailed how its purported attempts to combat racism, were in reality an outright, and so far, successful attack on the existing British society, its native people and our culture.
As Frank Ellis says:
“The near unanimous acceptance of its [the report's] assumptions and conclusions by the Labour government represents a major victory for those who are striving to undermine long-established British institutions and accomplish the final destruction of the United Kingdom “
When explaining the process of Sovietisation, of which the Macpherson report is part, Dr Ellis describes the fate of the Kulaks, the middle-class Russian peasants who Stalin sought to exterminate, and who, as a result, died in their millions.
On reading this, I then suggested that we, the White race, were being set up as the Kulaks of the 21st Century, and Frank told me that Jared Taylor of American Renaissance had also reached that exact same conclusion.
I leave it to you… to make your own assessment.
Now eleven years on, it is quite striking how relevant Frank’s analysis of the Macpherson report remains today, and how many of Frank’s predictions have come to pass.

A self-described “race realist” who was mobbed by angry protesters last time he tried to speak in Halifax will return next week to debate one of the city’s academic lightning rods.
Jared Taylor, an American magazine publisher banned from a Dalhousie University debate on racial diversity due to fears he would preach hatred, will go toe-to-toe with Peter March, the Saint Mary’s University philosophy professor who garnered national notoriety last year for posting controversial cartoons of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad on his office door.
“I had such a warm reception, how could I stay away?” Mr. Taylor said Monday.
Mr. Taylor was originally slated to debate David Divine, who holds Dalhousie’s chair in black Canadian studies. But Dalhousie cancelled that Jan. 15 appearance (Diversity Debate Cancelled) after a story about the controversial debate, and how it was being touted on a white supremacist website, appeared in The Chronicle Herald.
On Jan. 16, Mr. Taylor tried giving a Racial Diversity Talk at the Lord Nelson Hotel. But he was shouted down and roughed up by masked protesters.
“People like Jared Taylor turn up in every generation and you have to answer them and you have to be firm about it and you have to be courageous about it,” Mr. March said.
“You don’t do it by bullying them and making them look good. You don’t do it by putting on a mask and playing Ku Klux Klan.”
Mr. March will argue there’s no such thing as racial diversity because there aren’t races.
“It’s just not true that there are races in Canada,” he said. “There are human beings and they’re all one race.”

Dalhousie failed to uphold standards of academic freedom when it cancelled the January debate, Mr. March said.
“My job is to give sharp, efficient, fair, informed argument against a highly obnoxious philosophy,” he said.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) describes the ideology of Mr. Taylor’s New Century Foundation as “intellectualized, pseudo-scientific white supremacy.” It’s a charge the Virginia man denies.
Mr. Taylor will cover the $1,200 it will cost to provide security for the event, Mr. March said.

“There are going to be four policemen present,” he said. “They’re going to search everybody at the door. They’re going to make sure nobody wears any masks.”
The (March 6th, 2007) 7 p.m. debate is slated to take place in Theatre A of the Burke Education Building on Robie Street, (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
“We got a black eye last time,” Mr. March said. “I’m quite sure that this time it will go very smoothly.”
“This will turn out about the same way with this kooky March character. However, what Gutierrez and March and their followers have in common is an inability to understand a point of view that is not part of their programming, because they’re in such a state of near-hysteria, when it comes to having their belief base threatened, they cannot regard anything outside their prejudicial opinions with any unbiased consideration. They’re “True Believers” in every sense of the term and they are not capable of logical, coherent thought on matters of race and multiculturalism. It is like a fanatical religion to them.
When brainwashing/propagandizing techniques have been employed on people numerous times over a period of years and years any opposition to their instilled belief system is going to be answered with zero intellect and an abundance of irrational, over emotional rubbish.
They’re powerless to respond in any other way, and if one were to reveal to them chronologically, in great detail, the process through which their flawed belief system was established in their psyche, they would be just as outraged that they were considered to have not arrived at their opinions through a logical, reasonable process, as they were when their beliefs themselves were challenged.
And, in support of their position, they will back up their claims with myths, unproven facts, exaggerations, and outright lies, and it is these same misconceptions they will accuse the opposition of embracing.
Many of these types are hopeless, unless they face major conflict where their lives are in danger, because of their race, and even some of these will be true believers to the end.
But some will be positively affected by what they hear from Taylor, and while they likely won’t embrace what he has to say right away, they are apt to notice differences in what they have been forced to believe and reality, when they get more experience in the real world, and slowly come to the realization that what they have been led to believe for so many years is a pack of lies.
Too, there’s a contingent of skeptics who just don’t really buy into the PC agenda, and they could very well be covert supporters right away. Most of us have underwent the same mind-control techniques that have persuaded the people on the [political] left, but have refused to buy into the fabrications. There are others in Canada as well.
Also, there will be an overall positive effect to this debate, because no ideology based on absurd allegations and outright falsehoods can stand the light of day if the truth is espoused enough, and this event could prompt further debate, which will allow further comparisons and analysis, so it could well be the beginning of multicultural debate among Canadians who are not allowed any point of view, butthe Cultural Marxist perversion of the truth.
“Workers (people) of the world (Canada) unite (in truth). You have nothing to lose, but your chains.”
Unless, of course, it is your freedom for not following the party line, which is now called “hate speech.”

Prof. David Divine of DalhousieUniversity in Halifax, Canada, agreed to meet Jared Taylor in a debate on whether racial diversity is a strength or a weakness. Later, he backed out of his agreement, claiming he had been unaware of Mr. Taylor’s background, and was now unwilling to let him speak.

And I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, that an assertion — a belief — is all it is.
How, exactly, is racial diversity a strength for Canada, or any other country? Does it raise per capita GNP? Does it improve crop yields? Does it lower crime rates? Does it reduce green house gases? Does it lower taxes?
No, it doesn’t do any of those things. I’m not sure I have ever heard its boosters say specifically what it does.
I will tell you what racial diversity does: It results in conflict, tension, and hostility. At its worst, racial diversity can lead to race riots, racially-motivated murder and assault.
At its best, when communities of different races try to live together they simply leave each other alone. The result is relatively peaceful voluntary segregation. Except for a few bohemians, people of different races do not often mingle naturally and happily.
Now, you probably think that every major Canadian institution from the federal government on down takes the view that racial diversity is a “great strength” for Canada. In fact, they all agree with me. They all assert most emphatically that racial diversity is not a source of strength, but a source of conflict. The only difference is that instead of the word “conflict,” they use the word “racism.” Whatever “racism” may be, they all agree that it is a very bad thing, and that Canadian society is riddled with it.
So please remember this: Whenever people complain about racism, bigotry, hatred, racial profiling, discrimination, they’re not talking about the joys and benefits of racial diversity. They’re admitting that it IS a source of tension and suffering!

This question deserves an answer, ladies and gentlemen, but because Prof. Divine is afraid to debate me and I’m afraid it will not get one. In fact, I suspect Prof. Divine is afraid to debate me because he knows this question has no answer.

So it appears that racism is a very considerable scourge in Canada, but it is reassuring to know that commissions and tribunals and study groups and associations and foundations are beavering away night and day fighting it. They’ll soon have “racism” under control, right? Well, maybe not.
A recent survey by Statistics Canada found that, nearly 50 percent of blacks say they have suffered from discrimination or unfair treatment, as have 33 percent of South Asians and Chinese. (No report by StatCan on whether any whites suffer from racism.) A 2003 report on immigrants living in West Central Toronto found that 68 percent had suffered just from housing discrimination, let alone any other kind of discrimination.

Let us accept, for a moment, the lefty view of all this, namely that racism — whatever that may be — is a moral failing that afflicts only whites.
Non-whites — every man, woman and child — are noble, un-offending sufferers, whose sole aim is to be accepted as the loyal Canadians they are. Parenthetically, this seems to be the view of all your “human rights” commissions, too, but no matter. But, that was BEFORE the early 1970′s, when NON-white immigrants began making their appearance in massive importation numbers resulting in an unprecedented reduction of Toronto’s White residents to only 53% of the 2.5 million, today.

But if that is true, why must Whites — and their non-white victims — be put through the ordeal of racial diversity? If, after decades of combating racism, whites are still hopelessly racist — what is gained by an immigration policy that brings in, yet more non-whites only to make them suffer at the hands of whites, and one that degrades whites by bringing out the worst in them?
Toronto used to be virtually all-white. There couldn’t have been much racial discrimination. Now, all official sources agree that Toronto is a hive of racial discrimination. How has racial diversity therefore been a strength for Toronto,or forCanada?
This, therefore, is one problem with racial diversity. The races don’t seem to get along very well. Just look at all this agonizing and hand-wringing over racism. You may choose to blame all the problems exclusively on wicked White people, but why pretend racial diversity is a “strength”?
There is a 2nd aspect of racial diversity on which Canada is strangely silent. Have the NON-whites who’ve now arrived and subsequently altered the racial landscape…. improved the country? I realize this is a taboo question, but let us ask it anyway.

Canada is too squeamish to collect crime statistics by race, but the United States is not. We know, for example, that Blacks commit robbery and murder at approximately eight to ten times (800% to 1000%) the White rate, and Hispanics commit these crimes at 3 to 4 times the White crime rate.
Hispanics are 19X more likely than Whites to be in youth gangs, and Blacks are 18 times more likely. I would suspect there are equally striking racial differences in Canada, but no one knows because the government doesn’t want to know.
Back to Toronto in 2005, a coalition of 22 black community groups — but let’s stop right there. A coalition of 22 BLACK community groups!?Twenty-two race based associations!?
What do they all do? Why are they needed? Why are they racially exclusive? How many more are there that are not part of this coalition? Are they all glorying in the “strengths of racial diversity”?

So what are we to conclude from all this? Ladies and gentlemen, let us face facts squarely. Racial diversity in Canada, just as it is in America, is a troubling ordeal. Sometimes, a difficult, agonizing ordeal. It’s a source of resentment, guilt-mongering, and endless charges of “racism”.
If racial diversity was a “strength”, NON-white groups would not set up countless race-based organizations to protect and advance their interests. If it were a “strength”, no organizations would need diversity managers, or sensitivity training. If it were a strength, Canadians would not naturally separate on racial lines.

Let’s return for a moment to the subject of speaking freely. Let’s talk freely about “White flight”.
In a 2004 Toronto Star article, Statistics Canada reported on the appearance of visible minority neighborhoods in Canada’s big cities.
White residents used to live in these places, but they have moved out.
According to the Toronto Star newspaper, StatsCan could not bring itself to use the term “white flight”, and instead wrote only about “rapid replacement.”
Well, someone apparently wasn’t informed about how we’re now supposed to discuss these points. That same year, 2004, Toronto city councilman from Scarborough Mike Del Grande told his local paper that “a lot of White people are moving out“ of his ward.
Another councilman immediately jumped on Mr. Del Grande:
“To hear someone say White people are leaving, and Chinese are coming in, can be nothing other than a racist comment,” said Joe Mihevc.
Poor Mr. Del Grande had to apologize: “I should have said many older residents of the community (are moving out),” he said. “I didn’t say it in a politically correct way.“
What is going on when a city councilman says something that is obviously true, is accused of “racism”, and is forced to say he should have SPOKEN IN CODE rather than speak clearly? You can’t even describe what is going on before your very eyes, much less talk about why Whites are leaving, and whether they might even be justified in leaving! This doesn’t sound like a “strength” to me.
The vice principal of Queens University unbosomed what strikes me as a significant truth about Canada. Recently he was quoted as saying,
“Our Canadian culture has been squeamish about gathering race-based statistics because no one wants to see ethnic makeup reduced to numbers on a page. But unless you get this kind of information, you don’t really know if you have a problem.”
Well, yes. How do you even begin to assess whether racial diversity is a strength or a weakness unless you gather the information. Do different groups have different rates of illegitimacy? School failure? Poverty? If they do, does it make [any] sense to add to those racial groups through immigration?
Take CRIME data, for example. I understand Canada does not keep records of racial differences in crime rates. Too squeamish, I suppose. And yet, everyone knows some groups commit more crime than others. Your newspapers talk about it indirectly.
You have a Left-wing policy that causes damage to the country and, as it defies common sense, you don’t want it openly discussed – call it mass 3rd world immigration?
Find a half sensible sounding reason (which would appeal only to the half sensible though) why people shouldn’t even discuss it – it might offend immigrants?
Find a derogatory term to scream at those who dare to disobey – “RACIST, RACIST”?
Put career pressure on those professionals who refuse to toe the line – get them dismissed?

A controversial American writer and speaker who publicizes views many Canadians find offensive was roughed up at a Halifax hotel Tuesday night after obscenity-spouting protesters prevented him from delivering a talk on race and integration.
Dozens of demonstrators—many of them young people hiding their faces behind balaclavas or bandanas—shouted down Jared Taylor inside a meeting room at the Lord Nelson Hotel. A couple of protesters shoved him into a hallway but were prevented from manhandling him further by an opponent who had come to hear what Mr. Taylor had to say.
Prior to that incident, most of the demonstrators swore loudly at Mr. Taylor and told him to get out of town. At one point in the tense confrontation, several protesters surrounded him and tossed torn copies of pamphlets he had brought with him at his head. Others banged on noisemakers and hooted and hollered. “Leave! Leave! The message is clear!” anti-racist activists yelled at Mr. Taylor. “Get out! Get out! Exit the building!” they said.
The f-word was flying around the room as protesters tried to intimidate the man, who in turn mocked them about using “such charming language.” Dressed in a conservative business suit, white shirt and tie, Mr. Taylor for a while, leaned on a lectern and smiled at the room full of rowdies. The demonstrators calmed down briefly, then got a second wind and peppered the event with more foul language.
“You can shout all you want,” Mr. Taylor told the crowd, “but the police will be here and they will maintain the peace.” Halifax Regional Police officers were in the hotel’s lobby after most protesters left the building, but it was hotel security that handled near-bedlam in the third-floor meeting room. Mr. Taylor, who had been scheduled to participate in a Dalhousie University debate Monday on racial diversity before university officials dropped him from the program, intended to speak on his own Tuesday.

The university’s event, which was going to be a lecture by David Devine, a Black scholar at Dalhousie, was cancelled because of “inclement weather“. Editor of a publication called American Renaissance, Mr. Jared Taylor is a White, Yale-educated author and lecturer who maintains he is not a White “supremacist”.
[Inclement weather?? -- On this blog, Dec. 31, 2006, it was reported that "Officials of the Halifax university cited -- 'the controversy surrounding the issue' -- in deciding to cancel the event which was to be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.]
But his opponents strongly dispute that, saying his writings and talks show his true colours. Media outlets were invited to attend Mr. Taylor’s talk at the Lord Nelson, which was also open to the general public. One attendee who was the man who intervened when Mr. Taylor was being roughly escorted into the hallway was Jon Goldberg of the Atlantic Jewish Council in Halifax. Mr. Goldberg acknowledged he’s familiar with Mr. Taylor’s views, which he finds abhorrent. He said the protesters were wrong to physically usher the speaker out of the meeting room.
“Unfortunately, unless he breaks (Canada’s) hate-crime law, it’s a free country,”Mr. Goldberg told The Chronicle Herald. What Mr. Taylor has done is “incite these people to violence, which will make him a martyr,” Mr. Goldberg said. “The best thing you could have done was to ignore the guy,” he said.

In an interview, Mr. Taylor said he has never received such a “disconcerting” reception in his life. He said he was outraged by the behaviour of most protesters at the meeting. “I kept expecting police officers to show up,” Mr. Taylor said. “So it was a surprise to me that that never happened.”
Commentary:
“Here’s a classic MSM article at work. Notice the adjective-laced descriptions of both Jared and his ideas whereas Mr. Devine is simply “a black scholar at Dalhousie.”
The headline from the second article states Jared was supposedly “Chased” from the room insinuating a scene suggesting he literally ran for his life. Much is made of those who disagree with Jared and their rants are printed verbatim, however nothing of the sort is written about Devine.
This is classic MSM propaganda. There is also a veiled threat to Jared about violating Canada’s “Hate Laws” which many of us have warned him about. Even though Jared’s views were incorrectly labeled as “Fascist” you can be sure that the REAL FASCISTS, including the ‘noble’ Mr. Goldbergm (Jew?) who found it “unfortunate” that Jared was still free to exercise his speech rights, would dance a jig if Jared had been hauled away ‘legally’ by violating the completely FASCIST “hate laws” in Canada.

The proportion of blacks and Hispanics in an area is the single best indicator of how dangerous it is. The racial mix is a much better predictor of crime rates than poverty, unemployment, and dropout rates combined.
Although Jesse Jackson and Bill Cosby wring their hands over black-on-black mayhem, blacks actually commit more violent crime against whites than blacks. A black is about 39 times (39X) more likely to do violence to a white than the other way around, and no less than 130 times (130X) more likely to rob a white.

Every year there are about 15,000 [reported] black-on-white rapes but fewer than 900 white-on-black rapes. There are more than 3,000 gang rapes of Whites by Blacks—but white-on-black gang rapes are so rare they do not even show up in the statistics.
Back in 1999, we released an earlier, less detailed version of this report. [PDF] Even before publication, the Associated Press, Time, CBS Evening News, National Public Radio, Knight-Ridder, and the Washington Times wanted copies. A dozen other media organizations, including the Washington Post, attended the press conference with which we launched the report. At the same time, we arranged to have copies delivered to more than 450 news organizations with offices in the Washington, DC area.
The result: complete silence—with one exception. The Washington Times ran a substantial story on the report, in which it interviewed several prominent criminologists who confirmed the accuracy of our numbers but said they were too inflammatory to be discussed publicly.[VDARE.COM note: One other exception: Dr. Walter Williams, in his Creator's Syndicate column.]
Maybe no other editors thought people are interested in race and crime.Or maybe they were afraid people are too interested.
Some years back, a group called Violence Free Duluth in Duluth, Minnesota, studied a year’s worth of the city’s gun crimes. They looked into type of gun used, whether liquor or drugs were involved, the relationship between shooter and victim; age, race, and sex of criminal, etc.
But when they released their report they left one thing out: RACE of perpetrator.

Everybody—and I mean everybody—knows blacks commit crime way out of proportion to their numbers. People want to know just how way out the proportions are.
Needless to say, some listeners didn’t want to hear that Blacks are in jail for robbery at 15 times (15X) the White rate. A surprising number of black callers claimed our “racist” white government cooks the statistics. Most white callers said one of two things: either that I was “racist” or that I was brave. (Somehow, no one ever thought I was a brave racist.)
It is a sorry day in America when you are either brave or racist if you dig up and publicize crime data the Department of Justice << Click & scroll down to “Victim and Offenders” 2005 >> has been collecting for decades.
[In Table 42, entitled “Personal crimes of violence, 2005, percent distribution of single-offender victimizations, based on race of victims, by type of crime and perceived race of offender,” we learn that there were 111,590 whitevictims and 36,620 blackvictims of rape or sexual assault in 2005.
In the 111,590 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was White, 44.5% of the offenders were White... and 33.6% of the offenders were black. In the 36,620 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was black, 100 percent of the offenders were black, and 0.0 percent of the offenders were white. The table explains that 0.0 percent means that there were under 10 incidents nationally.
In the United States in one year, 2005………. 37,460 WHITE females were sexually assaulted or raped by a BLACK man, while between zero and ten black females were sexually assaulted or raped by a White man. (The real figures are much, much higher because these numbers are only the reported crimes.)
What this means is that EVERYday in the United States, over 100 white women are raped or sexually assaulted by a Black man.]
The main point of the “racism” accusation was that, even if the numbers were true, publicizing them only encourages other “racists” and feeds stereotypes. This is the Frank Jewell argument: White people can’t be trusted with the facts.
*[In Statistics Canada 2001 population count, BLACKS represent only 2 per cent [2%] of our entire Canadian resident population…..and one-half areforeign-born…..leaving a tiny one per cent [1%] of Blacks actually born in Canada.
The City of Toronto’s BLACK population (the vast majority immigrants and their offspring) is about 8%, yet Blacks are responsible for most crimes, especially violent crime….. well above their proportional rate. Here’s just one typical Toronto news story that happens regularly – Gun violence claims another victim.

A Canadian university cancelled a debate on racial diversity between the head of its BLACK studies program and an American “racial nationalist,” for fear that the topic would be too controversial.
But the cancellation of the debate has raised concerns about academic freedom, with the executive director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers arguing that it sends the wrong message to call off the debate at Dalhousie University between Professor David Divine and Jared Taylor, of American Renaissance magazine, on the topic of “Racial Diversity: North America’s Strength or Weakness?”
“The way you deal with speech some may find objectionable or even abhorrent is not with silence,” said James Turk. “It’s with more speech—with criticism and debate.
“We’re always concerned when a university shuts down debate like this, especially around controversial subjects.”
Officials of the Halifax (Nova Scotia) university cited “the controversy surrounding the issue” in deciding to cancel the event, which was to be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The university said in a statement that while “the topic is an important one … the university has learned more about the background and standpoint of the others involved in the proposed debate and has concluded a debate with people who held such views would not be a useful way to explore the topic.”
Instead, Professor Divine will deliver a lecture on the topic by himself, the statement said.
Mr. Taylor, who describes himself as a “race realist,” said he was shocked by the university’s about-face on the debate, and said it showed “academic cowardice.”
“I’m absolutely astounded by this,” he said in an interview from his Virginia office. “In effect, he has ejected me from the debate and taken the floor for himself … They’ve turned a debate into a monologue.”
Prof. Divine was not available for comment and it was not clear who decided to cancel the debate.
But Tom Traves, the Dalhousie University president told the Halifax Chronical-Herald one day before the event was cancelled that he was surprised to hear of the potential controversy and promised: “I’ll have to look into this.”
And in an e-mail to the National Post, university spokesman Charles Crosby wrote: “The powers that be have just informed me the event will now not take place.”
Posters had already been printed for the event, and Mr. Taylor said he had already booked his flight and hotel room. “They don’t want to hear dissenting points of view on this topic.”
Mr. Turk, whose association represents 55,000 teachers, librarians, researchers and other academic staff, said that regardless of what university officials thought of Mr. Taylor’s views, they should be protecting professors who raise controversy.
He gave as one example a political scientist from St. Francis Xavier University who attended a Holocaust denial conference in Iran earlier this month. Shiraz Dossa was chastized by the university’s academic vice-president this week, but has apparently not been disciplined for attending the two-day conference in Tehran.
The president of the university expressed “shock and regret” when he learned that the professor had presented a paper on how the Holocaust plays into the war on terror.
Mr. Turk insists that the “role of a university administrator is to protect their faculty’s academic freedom—not to discipline them for exercising it.”

All it takes is for some group such as SPLC to label you as a white supremacist or a racist and then some universities will think they are allowed to prevent you from speaking and/or allow radical students to shout you down. However, Mr. Taylor is in very good company, SPLC and others are also not too happy with Pat Buchanan, Dinesh D’Souza, Charles Murray, David Horowitz and Ann Coulter, to name just a few.
