Watered-Down “Conservatives”

[Are not] conservatives the ones who claim to ensure stability, continuity, tradition, respect for the past? Or,  have they long since dropped all pretense to any of the time-honored definitions of ‘conservatism‘?

To all those ‘conservatives‘ who are up on their high horses condemning not only John Derbyshire, but anyone who remotely agrees with him, or defends his right to speak truth: defend yourselves and your ‘conservatism‘… or else, drop the label and call yourselves something more appropriate.

How does it come to be that the ‘conservative‘ of today takes an entirely opposite view on certain vital matters to those held by his parents, grandparents and the generations before them?

I think many of these ‘conservatives‘, the ones calling Internet commentators ‘the scum of the earth‘ are superannuated ‘adultlescents‘.  For them, history did not begin until the first Bush administration, circa 1988, hence they don’t remember what happened when the sainted ‘Father of our Country‘, MLK, was nominated to have a national holiday in his honor.

The fact  is, many Republicans resisted that idea, and did so vociferously. If you are old enough, and have read something besides politically corrected ‘history’, you will know that to be true, though the story is being sent down the p.c. memory hole.  Ronald Reagan himself, at first, objected, as did some Republicans in Congress. The latter-day fawning over MLK, the excessive adulation devoted to ‘black conservatives‘, this is all relatively recent history. The wholesale adoption of the liberal views on such things is a very recent phenomenon. And now we have Glenn Beck honoring the ‘black Founding Fathers.’ What!?

The Civil Rights era did constitute a social revolution. The conservatives of earlier generations, imperfect though they were, realized that. They remembered a time when the dominant attitudes on racial issues were ones that have since become all but outlawed, made [into] thought-crimes.

Once, conservatives did not try to distance themselves from ‘old America‘ on racial matters, and did not feel compelled to look down on their parents and grandparents’ ideas and beliefs and life choices. Nowadays, those who call themselves ‘conservatives‘ are embracing ideas that, even within my lifetime were once considered ‘radical’ and have proven to be revolutionary ideas.  And espousing these once-fringe ideas is ”conservative” in what sense?

Nobody with any knowledge of history can deny that our society was turned upside down, starting during the mid-50s and continuing in earnest to this day. How is it that today’s conservatives would not be recognized as such by their parents or grandparents?

Unless your elders were all closet Communists, they did not hold politically correct (p.c.) ideas about race. Their views were likely to have been more similar, whether they came from the North or the South, to the so-called ”far right” than to those of the weak-as-water, PC Republicans of today. The Republicans have veered sharply to the left, as has what we laughingly call ‘conservatism.’

How is it that a conservative can reject the ways and the thoughts of previous generations, while embracing the radical innovations (Anti-White policies like A.A., educational follies like ‘No Child Left Behind’, gay marriage, women in the military, pro-abortion, etc.) of the counterculture?

Understanding “Leftists”

Anyone who has interacted with radical leftists will notice certain consistent attributes among them.

They are highly emotional and irrational. Their conclusions are not based on logical assessments of a situation, but on their personal identification with one party, and the projection of their own emotional damage into incommensurable issues.

One can easily observe this phenomenon repeated over and over. It is evident in the histrionic behavior of Code Pink activist Sandra Ruch and the rest of her crew during their failed effort to sailThe Sea Hitler to Gaza to try to break an embargo against the terrorist group Hamas.

It’s evident in the unbalanced behaviour of OCAP activists who disrupted a City Council meeting a few months ago.

It’s evident among radical university professors who are mired in marginal areas of study, such as “Critical Race Theory“, “Gender Studies” and others permeated with self-absorbed nonsense that bears little relevance to the rest of the world.

While people not directly involved with radical, anti-capitalist politics are familiar with the absurdities of that movement, it is interesting to note that some rare self-insight has been exhibited by the Godmother of Canadian radicalism, Judy Rebick.

In an article at the radical leftist website she founded, rabble.ca, Rebick wrote:

In addition to the sadness about the state of society and of nature, almost all of us whatever oppression we might have experienced for social or economic reasons suffer from some kind of deep personal wounds. And if we don’t face that sadness, that pain, we will inflict it on ourselves and others in a way that is hurtful. Much of the dysfunction on the Left comes not from political differences which can be creative and productive, but from people acting out this pain. We become part of the problem instead of the part of the solution.

I was in therapy at the time when I was most busy and most recognized as an activist. I went through a lot of change both from the activism and from the therapy but I kept the therapy private. Jean-Francois Revel’s phrase ”a continuous torrent of messages” is especially apt for today’s media, in which there is ”news” fed to us around the clock, 7 days a week. And the torrent of messages is not confined to the sordid ”news channels” on TV or the dead tree media, but it pervades the ”entertainment” arm of the media. It’s obvious to anybody who dissents in the least from the official propaganda that movies, TV shows, and even (especially) commercials carry messages, sometimes in rather sneaky subliminal form.

Even among blogs, created by individuals, the leftist globalist message is omnipresent.

I read a number of blogs on art, antiques, decorating, history, and various oddities, and the default position among those blogs is that of multiculturalism, one-worldism, egalitarianism, feminism, and pro-homosexuality. These ideas invade even the most innocent topics on many of the blogs I read.

There is a blog I read about vintage cartoons and cartoonists, and the blogger sees fit to inject left-wing editorializing into posts which should not be politicized. But everybody who accepts the ‘image of the world and [our] society’ as fed to us by the media, shares this vision of what the world is, and more importantly, what it should be. And as Revel says, as the media-fed image becomes ‘more twisted and distorted’, the more dangerous the actions and reactions of the indoctrinated become.

The left, obsessed with their ideology, and infuriated at the fact that some people refuse to be conformed to their false image of the world, are at a fever pitch of frustration and rage.

I think most of us who are dissenters from their world of falsehoods are able to ”turn off’‘ politics, and the news cycle for a while, and occupy ourselves with healthier and happier things, even if only briefly. But the left, who are as someone said ”hag-ridden by visions of utopia” seem unable to abstain from thinking of everything in political terms. Hence you see a memorial service for shooting victims being turned into some kind of bizarre rally, with cheers, whoops, and t-shirts.

This truly is a religion for them; it is all-pervasive for them. They can’t seem to turn it off and simply take life and the world as it is. Everything is seen in the starkest terms; those they disagree with are their deadly enemies. And yes, there are a few on our side who see things in those terms, and they are not completely wrong to see enemies on the other side. But it is the leftists who hold the power right now, and who have the momentum on their side for the most part. And yet they have not got absolutely everybody under their heel just yet, and they will never rest until they do, apparently.

They are going all out to bring everybody into line with their ideology. But to do so they have to speak falsehoods continually. I’ve often thought that we live in the Age of the Lie; I don’t recall any time in which so many people seem to speak lies, believe lies, and live lies, nor a time when truth was so little regarded.  >to full article.

“Racist, Racist”

Do a search on the phrase ‘liberals real racists’, and you will get many, many hits. Too many to read through, as I found when I searched on that phrase.

It is pretty obvious to me that the phrase was cooked up by some Republican ‘wit’ who had just been called the r-word (“racist”, not Republican) by some liberal/multicultist. It amounts to the schoolyard retort, ”I know you are, but what am I?” It is just about as intelligent.

The end result of this accusation being flung at lefties and diversity-cultists… is that now we have twice as many White folks calling each other ”racist!” back and forth, endlessly. Way to go.

It surely must amuse the diversities (NON-whites) that Whites are now calling each other their favorite term of abuse. Now they can take some time off, and let us call each other the ‘r-word’ while they sit back and watch and laugh.

We are doing their job for them. They don’t need to race-bait anymore; we are doing it to each other.

I decided some years ago that I won’t use the word ‘racist’ or ‘racism’ except in an ironic sense. I won’t write it here without scare quotes. So you won’t find me joining in the counter-accusations against our lefty/multicultist foes. I can think of many other names, mostly unflattering, that fit them, but I can think of no good reason to join in the race-baiting.

First, I think it serves no useful purpose. Do the people who employ that tactic think it will shock some leftist or politically-correct brainwash-ee into an epiphany? Do we think it will shame them into admitting that they harbor “racist” thoughts?

If a leftist were brutally honest with himself, he would admit that by claiming that Whites are congenitally bigoted against NON-whites — then he himself must be just as guilty as the Republicans (Conservatives) whom he loathes. White ”privilege” makes us all guilty, according to the leftists and  non-whites. So by that line of thought, liberals and ‘conservatives’ are equally guilty of the ‘White original sin.’

But are liberals or progressives ‘racists’… as most people understand that word? If their definition is true, if ‘racist’ means anybody who 1) notices race and/or 2) believes the races differ in some intrinsic way, then what do we call the liberals who see the races as different in ways that flatter non-whites, and who believe that all the problems of non-whites – being “caused” by Whites – must be rectified by Whites?

Paternalism can be interpreted as meaning that non-whites are incapable of taking care of themselves, or even of defending themselves verbally.

For example, liberals will jump to the defense of nonwhites when they sniff out any hint of ‘bigotry’ from a fellow White. They will argue in the name of the non-white as if that non-white cannot defend himself. I suppose this is their rather deluded idea of chivalry – which in its true form calls for defending the weak and the lame and the halt. But I think it bizarre that they haven’t noticed that non-whites can, and do defend themselves loudly, vociferously, and stridently. Why White liberals imagine that they need to act as lawyers for their favorite victim groups, (mascots, as Thomas Sowell put it) is beyond me.

The liberals’ client groups are certainly able to speak up for themselves; they are not weak at all in that sense. And they have the media 110 percent on their side; the media, being made up of leftists of one stripe or another, does little but defend the perceived downtrodden “victim” groups. It is a leftist fallacy that ‘minorities’ are ‘under-served populations’ or that their ‘voices are excluded from the public discourse.’ That notion is laugh-out-loud funny.

But does paternalism imply a sense of superiority, or a dominant/subservient relationship between the person helping and those being helped? I don’t think so. I think that most leftists have convinced themselves that they are the possessors of something called ‘White privilege‘ which makes them the beneficiaries of many un-earned benefits. They think these benefits are taken directly from non-whites and given — unjustly — to us. So they think they are righting a wrong.

If they want to be self-abasing altruists who are willing to serve others at their own expense, that’s their choice — but where it goes badly wrong is when they enshrine that altruism in public policy and making it the law of the land. And where it goes really, really wrong is when they force the rest of us, essentially, to participate in this racial self-abasement and penance.
