“First, they came …”

Changing Canada

My nation was once my home. Now it’s an international hotel and they want me serving all their needs. No thanks!

First, they came to the other country and I did not speak out — because I did not live in that homogeneous nation.

Then they came to my nation and I did not speak out — because their numbers were still small.

Then they came to my city and I did not speak out — because they lived in their own neighbourhoods.

Then they came to my neighbourhood and I did not speak out — because I feared being called a “racist”.

Then they came to live next door and I did not speak out — because I quickly moved to a small town.

Then they came to my small town and I DID speak out — and now I’m called a “racist” with no other place to escape!
